Normal is Over (The Movie)... Renée Scheltema

Award-winning filmmaker and producer Renée Scheltema spend 4 years to create a Feature Documentary with a focus on the big picture of why humans have inadvertently been putting our planet in peril: climate change, species extinction, the depletion of critical natural resources, and industrial control of our food production.

"I made this film for my children and all the generations to come"
- Renée Scheltema

With an open mind, she has been investigating the cause, symptoms, and more importantly: solutions for our problems.

Watch the Trailer: Normal is Over

The film examines how our economic and financial system connects all these issues and offers solutions which could be implemented immediately.  "We need a new economic system," says Renée.

From practical everyday fixes to rethinking the overarching myths of our time, this film is intended to challenge viewers on many levels and most of all to offer hope.

"The key to the future of the world is finding
optimistic stories and sharing them"

Filming, producing and editing this film took Renée 4 years. Almost entirely self funded, this film is Renee’s gift to the world. Visit the website here

A last word:

Two planets meet. The first one asks: "How are you?"
"Not so well", the second answered "I've got the Homo Sapiens."
"Don't worry," the other replied, "I had the same. That won't last long."

#iStart2SingCenturion - The Experience

Multicultural Magic at its best! A night to remember. A night that left one with renewed feelings of hope for a better world. It will stay with you for a long time to come ...

"What an experience to share the stage with Pops Mohamed, Poorvi Bhana, Ashish Joshi, Herman Steyn and Dehan von Solms last night. Liela Groenewald also made a stunning guest appearance and Kabous Meiring was her wonderful self as MC. Thanks Pierre du Toit for putting the show together. Personal highlight: To do the Brixton Moord & Roof Orkes song "Spoed" with Ashish Joshi on percussion. Lekker!" - Andries Roof Bezuidenhout

"Musiek het die vermoë om jou menswees te verander. As jy altyd na dieselfde soort musiek luister, verander min - of niks. Dit is waar die krag van iStart2 se "fusion" inkom. Ek stap nooit daar weg dieselfde mens nie. Dankie"
- Francois Laubscher

"iStart2Sing was heerlik! Vanaand het ek huis toe gery met hoop deur musiek vir Suid-Afrika" - Cindy Matthee

Keep your dirty lights on ... Derek Jooste & Herringbone

Herringbone sends a clear message to society and mining companies specifically:
  "Keep your dirty lights on"

"Through Art we can spread the Love" - Derek Jooste

On the iStart2 Show this week we chatted to Derek Jooste and members of the band, Herringbone. These young guys jammed in studio and shared wisdom on sustainability issues, the history of Bluegrass and their message to the world.

Derek feels strongly about making an appeal to the rich, white people out there to support sustainability initiatives and community radio stations. His unique, dark sense of humour reflects in their song that relates to the evolution of mining in America. "However sustainable your domestic life may be, you have to think where your electricity comes from," says Richard English. Derek confirms this view about South African Mining companies: "If we have more honest mining we wouldn't be in the situation we are in."
