I get up again ... Bernadette Rigney & Terry-Ann Adams

Bernadette Rigney, director at fAbility, a company which shares innovative ideas and technology to assist and improve the lifestyles of persons with physical disabilities, is adamant:  “With all eyes on us, we may as well keep it fabulous!”

Keitu, Bernadette ("iStart2 do!"), Pierre and Terry-Ann

And fabulous they are indeed. Bernadette and Terry-Ann Adams chatted to us about  how we define a person with a disability, how far we've come in South Africa on Disability Rights and share their ideas around the issues of "Reasonable Accommodation" and "Universal Design". Persons with disabilities face a myriad of challenges but Terry-Ann feels strongly: "I don't want people to feel sorry for me. Once you are okay with who YOU are, you are okay with other people." Words of wisdom from a woman who have faced unspeakable discrimination against her person: "I get up again and I want you to smile."

To share the "fabulosity" of Terry-Ann and Bernadette, to get the latest Green Times News and hear some poetry from Natalia Molebatsi, just click play to listen to the show.

High Hopes ... Ianthe Smulders & Iris Freericks

I&IFORYOU, founded in Amsterdam and led by Iris Freericks and Ianthe Smulders from the Netherlands, has at its core the aim to reach out and make a difference.  Iris and Ianthe is travelling throughout South Africa, from Eastern Cape via Kwazulu Natal to Johannesburg.  And their intention?  "We want to help the people of South Africa realise greater self-sufficiency through the use of solar power, and to educate on how this source of renewable energy can greatly improve the lives of millions," says Ianthe.

"We believe in solar power for the people of South Africa" - Iris & Ianthe

“We aim to reach out to people worldwide (you) by bundling our combined efforts (I and I), and helping in places where we believe we can actually make a difference,” says Iris and Ianthe. "Africa, in return, taught us a lot. People from the rural areas live differently, but they are so happy."

With over 600 million people in Africa, 12 million in South Africa alone, having no access to power, portable (solar) power offers Africa the opportunity to generate its own energy supply and in that, transform millions of lives.
